Here's a super simple homemade carpet stain remover recipe that only has three ingredients, is frugal, and that works well on lots of different stains.
This recipe was sent in by a reader, Angela, who originally used this on vomit stains on her carpet, after her poor soon got sick after eating spaghetti. It took the stain right out!
2 ounces hydrogen peroxide
Between 1/2 ounce and one ounce of dish soap (some people swear it must be original Dawn dish soap)
2 tablespoons baking soda
Add all the ingredients to a plastic spray bottle and then mix well, by shaking.
Then, saturate the stain with the mixture and let it dry.
Next, vacuum and done! So easy!!
***Please note that while many people have successfully used this recipe without needing to scrub, others, perhaps because of impatience, did scrub the stain remover into their carpet, and this worked as well.***
If you use the original Dawn dish soap, or another colored dish soap, and feel like it is leaving a colored soap residue in your carpet, you may want to rinse away the remover, once it has a chance to work on the stain. The important thing is to let it work for a while before you rinse it away.
Angela explained that she used this on her son's stains, as mentioned above. Specifically she said, "This has worked amazing on vomit! My youngest's stomach did not agree with spaghetti one night and he threw up all over our beige carpet and he did not tell me until the next morning so it had many hours to dry and stain. This stuff got the entire stain out!"
